Mr. Munchimunch and I are always up for discovering new Japanese joints. When there was a deal for Kobe Sushi on Groupon, I immediately bought one.
Apparently, Kobe Sushi was featured on Man vs Food when Adam tried to take on the Spicy Hellfire Sushi challenge. There is a specific roll that you can order with certain levels of spiciness. I am unsure if Adam from Man vs Food survived the challenge, but it was something I did not want to try!
My usual order of green tea. I preferred loose leaf tea, but it seems like most restaurants only carry teabags.
Agedashi tofu. It was no contest. New Akasaska Sushi still has the best agedashi tofu I’ve had here in Utah. Kobe Sushi’s version was too soggy and there was too much tofu.
Caterpillar which is eel and cucumber topped with avocado, bonito and eel sauce. You can’t really go wrong with this roll. It was acceptable.
J Roll which is albacore, cream cheese, sriracha, crab, all deep fried with J sauce on top. The bottom roll is my simple negihama which is yellowtail with scallions. The negihama was surprisingly fresh.
Hoto Tako which is octopus, kaiware, cucumber, spicy mayo and sesame.
Mr. Munchimunch decided to try this instead of his usual tako nigiri. I know he mentioned that he wish there was more octopus in the roll instead of tiny pieces.
I wasn’t too impressed with what Kobe Sushi had to offer as this place is just your typical nice and bustling little Japanese restaurant. Things were not too memorable and I had to double check my notes prior to writing this post.
If you’re in the area and must have Japanese food, then sure go ahead and give Kobe Sushi a try. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.
