Cafe Anh Hong is the third “dim sum” restaurant that I’ve been to in Utah. Earlier this year (back in March!), my friends and I met up for an early dim sum before heading over to Anime Salt Lake. Looking back on this makes me realize that I haven’t had dim sum in a very very long time. And it also makes me remember my love of cosplay and conventions! You might remember me talking about cosplay a while back.
(For those interested, I painted the headband, bracelet, and shoes. I sewed the dress from a bad pattern so had to redo everything, but it fit a lot better the second time around. I had the stockings already. I bought contacts to match with the character; however, it isn’t noticeable unless you’re looking at my eyes in direct sun/light. And Mr. Munchimunch helped me make the “crossbow” from foam board, a piece of balsa wood, and some string. I made the arrow out of a real arrow shaft along with some painted foam board pieces.)
Here’s a picture of Maya as reference. You can also check out her information here.
Funnily enough, Salt Lake Comic Con, Salt Lake City’s first comic convention ever, is this weekend. I’ve been working on my cosplay this whole past weekend and every day of this week so far! I’ll be sure to post up some pictures after the event. ^_^
You’re probably wondering why I’m talking so much about cosplay instead of food. I’m just so excited!!! haha Alright, back to the food.
On the bottom, we have Spare Ribs which is one of my favorite dim sum dishes. I loved it! On the right, we have steamed roast pork buns. These were also tasty. On the top, we have Beef Tripe which I didn’t quite enjoy, but it was much better than Hong Kong Tea House and Restaurant’s version. And on the left, we have Shrimp Dumplings.
We also ordered some Spring Rolls. The outside was crispy, but I did not enjoy the filling.
In the front, you’ll see the cookie crust version of the Egg Tart. I definitely preferred the flaky crust version from New Golden Dragon a lot more! Behind, you can see Turnip Cakes. Sadly, it didn’t come with any sauce.
I was really surprised to see White Sugar Sponge Cake offered so I had to order it. It was a bit too sour/tangy for my tastes. I think I was more interested in ordering it than actually eating it.
An order of Steamed Custard Buns. I had this for the dessert portion of the meal and it was still slightly warm!
Lastly, Shrimp Rice Rolls. I wish there was more shrimp as I’m use to three shrimp per roll, but the shrimp in these rolls were especially large so I did not mind.
Personally, out of the three dim sum places that I’ve tried and reviewed so far, I enjoyed New Golden Dragon the most. I have received recommendations for other places to visit and I think I’ll be making plans for dim sum soon!
